Simple wish

Infinite shortbread, December 2008

When you have a moment, find a shortbread cookie like the ones I baked this morning, a warm quiet spot to rest, and enjoy that cookie. Don't rush. Notice it. Butter that comforts and softens. Just sweet enough to make your tongue sigh. A fine powder to rub between your fingers. As it melts in your mouth, think about the people involved in making that cookie. The farmer who raised the wheat, the miller who ground the flour, the truckers who hauled, the clerks who stocked, the advertisers who heralded, the makers of the Frigidaires that allow us to store butter safely, and the hands that mixed the ingredients, cut out the shapes, and placed the cookie on a rack to cool. This is a short list. The real one is vast. So broad, it approaches infinite.

These thoughts bring in me a sense of peace. It's hard to explain, but it makes me feel like I am never really alone. And now I offer this feeling to you because it's not mine to hold.

Thank you for that moment, Michael. I know just what you mean; this type of thought comforts me immensely as well.
I wish you joy and peace and warmth.

Such a simple post, and yet poignant beyond words. This is why you are in my Top Ten in my Reader.

It has been such an honor to get to know you over the past year. You've stretched me and prodded me and made me think about so many things that need thinking about. And for every moment, I am grateful.

Here's wishing you and yours a blessed holiday and a new year brimming with wondrous surprises . . .

Now I'm off to steal your picture for my header . . . ;-)

I would like your permission to link this post to my Christmas post. It is the perfect offer of a holiday wish, and it is the way I would love to wish my readers Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. It is such a simple wish of peace, and you simply say it better than I ever could. May I link this post? I would be ever so grateful.

By the way, I know you've wondered where I came from, since I was the first follower of your blog. I read your quote on Blogtations, and then visited and saw your photographs and read your work and just fell in love. So often you say things that I wish I could say. Thank you for your work, it truly touches me.
